Tara Mahoney, NP

Nurse Practitioner located in Anthem, AZ & Scottsdale, AZ

About Tara

Tara was born and raised just outside of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her journey in healthcare began after a sports injury that eventually led to surgery. During her rehab she discovered there were alternatives that had not been presented or tried prior to her having the procedure. She decided at that time that she would like to be part of providing a more holistic approach to injury care.

Tara became a massage therapist in 1997, where she specialized in rehabilitative massage and trigger point therapy. Many of her clients had chronic pain and were often not even touched by their medical providers. They would come to her after trying a variety of medications and treatments that did not help. She discovered that doing specific work on muscles not only assisted people in finding some relief, but it served to validate their pain. While she saw the impact this work had on people, there were many limitations, and it sparked a desire in Tara to do even more to help others.

After careful consideration, Tara decided to become a nurse practitioner. She worked as a nurse in a variety of environments, including hospice, neurology, and the ER. Her Masters in Family Nursing Practice is from Grand Canyon University and she is a board-certified nurse practitioner with experience in both primary and urgent care.

Having a strong desire to be in a position where she is truly able to help people improve their quality of life led Tara to Arizona Pain Relief. Being part of the team here is a perfect fit. She can utilize her knowledge of musculoskeletal disorders and trigger point therapy as well as her medical knowledge in caring for patients. She strongly believes in the multidisciplinary approach at Arizona Pain Relief, utilizing chiropractic, physical therapy, and medical providers to focus on treating the underlying cause of an issue. This approach serves to improve function, not just provide relief from pain. Her greatest satisfaction is in seeing patients enjoy activities they were once unable to participate in and get back into life.

Tara moved to the Phoenix area in 2010 and she is happy to now call it home. In her free time, she hangs out with her two boys and stays busy with their sports schedules. She loves football and basketball.
